Prevent Blindness Texas Names Jacob Allen Showers State Winner of  Most Beautiful Eyes Contest

Houston, TX (Oct. 25, 2011) – Prevent Blindness Texas is pleased to announce that Allen, TX resident Jacob Allen Showers has been voted “Most Beautiful Eyes” for the state of Texas.  Through the national contest by Prevent Blindness America, Showers received the highest number of online votes between September 1-30, 2011.  The Most Beautiful Eyes contest was open to all children ages 0-17, offering a grand prize of a $25,000 college scholarship.

Showers, and all state winners will receive a free pair of Eagle Eyes Optics Astro and Rocketeer Sunglasses for kids plus a Kids’ Fisher® Space Pen.  And, will advance to the final round of judging.

Celebrity judges including former broadcaster Larry King, Derrek Lee of the Pittsburgh Pirates and NASA astronaut Walter Cunningham will decide the overall winner, as well as second and third place winners.  The three finalists and their families will enjoy a trip to Chicago to attend the Prevent Blindness America Annual Awards Banquet on Friday, November 18, 2011, where the overall winner will be announced.

The national winner of the Most Beautiful Eyes Contest will receive a $25,000 college scholarship and for one year, will be the face of the “Star Pupils” program, the national children’s eye health and safety program from Prevent Blindness America.  The second prize winner will receive a $4,000 scholarship, with a $2,000 scholarship for the third place winner.  The scholarship prizes are made available by Marchon Eyewear and Advantica.
