Diona Punch

Healthy Eyes Eyeglass Program, October 2012

“My name is Diona Punch, and I love to read! I’m in the 7th grade and reading is my treasure. There probably isn’t a time when I’m not reading except for when I’m asleep or during P.E. at school. Whenever my mom calls me to do chores, I always show up with a book. Right now I’m reading four books. I have a list of books I want to read. I have probably read about half of the books in my school’s library. I even go to the public library to check out books. Whenever we travel in the car, I always take a book. If I don’t have a book to read, I get bored and fall asleep.

About 4 months ago, I lost my glasses and it became a struggle to read. When I tried to read, my eyes became watery, my vision blurred, and my head began to hurt. My mom couldn’t afford to replace my glasses, so I didn’t enjoy reading as much. This made me sad and at times I became truly bored. My mom contacte4d Prevent Blindness Texas and they helped me get new glasses.

I am so thankful for my new glasses. Now my favorite treasure has been restored. Thank you Prevent Blindness Texas for helping me get new glasses. For it is truly a treasure to be able to read comfortably.”

Healthy Eyes Eyeglass Program, February 2012

“I am so grateful to participate in the Healthy Eyes Eyeglass Program. If not for this program, I would be wearing eyeglasses with the wrong prescription. Due to my income, I really can’t afford to purchase eyeglasses as my vision changes. I am a diabetic and my vision is rapidly changing. This program is designed to help those in need and cannot be used just because it exists. Thank you so much. I’m seeing clearly now, no glare.”

Healthy Eyes Eyeglass Program, July 2012

"My vision is well over 20/200 in both eyes! I have been without glasses for 9 months. I literally "feel" my way around. My income is $788.00 a month, $600 of which goes to rent and utilities. I also have a street rescue dog that is being loved and cared for in my home. My income is such that I decided to care for my pet, house and food, and that's where my money ran out! If it was not for your organization, Roadrunner and I would still be living in darkness! Now we play ball and take long, lovely walks! Thank you!"

Sights for Students Program, Age 18, March 2012

"I got to try the new pair of glasses I was going to get. They fit perfect on me. My old glasses were loose and were falling all the time. I know with these new glasses I'm going to improve my grades because I will be able to see more clearly."

Healthy Eyes Eyeglass Program, August 2012

"This program has made a tremendous difference in my life. I have been wearing and benefiting from my new prescription for two weeks. I am so very thankful that this program exists and that I was eligible to receive my beautiful eyeglasses. I live with and work for my aunt, who has chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML). Because of the care that she needs, I am not able to work outside of the home at this time, so for full year I was not able to afford new eyeglasses. My old prescription eyeglasses had expired and were so scratched up. Thank you so much for my new eyes! This is truly a blessing!"
